Upcoming Important Dates ~ Kindergarten & Pre-K Registration ~ Princeton Plan & Demographic Study Presentation ~ News from the Past Week
Kindergarten students recently participated in a fun and educational STEM challenge at the Global Learning Center’s Makerspace. Working in pairs, they used plastic cups, popsicle sticks, and index cards to build structures that kept teddy bear counters off the "lava" (the tabletop).
Through planning, building, testing, and revising, the children developed critical thinking and teamwork skills while engaging in creative problem-solving. The hands-on experience sparked excitement, and the students are already looking forward to returning for more learning adventures in the Makerspace.
Our second visit to the Jacob Burns Media Arts Center focused around the French phrase, mise en scene, which is the stage design and arrangement of actors in scenes. We also learned we can create a world with words. Following the viewings, our third graders had a chance to create their own worlds with words. Students used as many adjectives as they could to describe places inspired by the films we’ve studied.

For two weeks in November, Children Service Organization (CSO) at Roaring Brook ran a special collection. One of our wonderful night custodians, Oscar Cifuentes, brought a great project to CSO. He shared information about a group called Rayo de Luz (Ray of Light) that collects items for those in need in the mountains of Guatemala. CSO put up posters around the school and created announcements to share on our daily news channel. We collected dental supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.) and school supplies. Oscar's family paid the postage to mail out the items donated and Rayo de Luz will deliver them to those who need them. The CSO students learned a great deal from this project.
